Our Businesses: Fueling Global Change

A Business Model Built on Generosity

David Allis runs two global barcode businesses with a singular focus: every dollar of profit is an investment in a better world.

Barcodes New Zealand

Established in 2007, Barcodes New Zealand (Barcodes Ltd) is now 100% owned by the Better World Initiative trust. This unique structure ensures that all profits are directed to charitable purposes.

Profit for Good: We donate 90% or more of profits to high-impact charities.

Giving What We Can Pledge: As the first NZ company to take this pledge, we are committed to supporting the most effective global interventions.

Our Previous Businesses

Before barcodes, we focused on movement and education across Aotearoa.

Unicycle Shop NZ (2003–2012)

Our first NZ venture was more than a shop—it was a movement. We loaned unicycles to over 120 schools, helping a generation of Kiwi kids find their balance before the market shifted.

Edugames (2007–2019)

We designed and sold educational games including Kiwi Quiz and Discover NZ. While we no longer run the business, these resources remain available through Papawai Media, continuing to educate kids in both English and Te Reo M?ori.
