Launched by the Better World Initiative in 2025, Just Good Coffee provides consumers with objective 5-star ratings based on transparent, ethical criteria. We started by assessing roasters across Aotearoa New Zealand, with plans to expand to Australia and the United Kingdom.
How We Rate Coffee Roasters
Each roaster in our directory receives a score out of 5 stars based on rigorous criteria across three main pillars:

Ethical Sourcing
Direct trade, fair prices, and direct relationships with coffee farmers.

Supply Chain Transparency
Publicly available information regarding origin, bean pricing, and farm-level conditions.

Sustainable farming practices, eco-friendly packaging, and low-emissions roasting methods.
Future Expansion Plans
Having completed initial assessments for New Zealand coffee roasters, our team is preparing to extend the database to include Australian and UK roasters. Our ultimate goal is to empower consumers to make informed choices and encourage coffee companies to elevate their ethical standards.
