Just Good Coffee

New Project — Launched 2025

Launched in 2025, Just Good Coffee is a comprehensive directory and evaluation platform for coffee brands and roasters. Each brand is evaluated and given an ethical rating (out of 5 stars) across key criteria: ethical sourcing, operational transparency, and environmental responsibility.

Project Highlights:
  • Launched with comprehensive ratings for New Zealand roasters
  • Assesses ethical sourcing, supply chain transparency & sustainability
  • Expanding to review Australian and UK roasters next

The Open Table Gathering

The Open Table NZ

New Project — Launched 2025

In 2025, we launched The Open Table NZ to connect open, progressive Christians across Aotearoa New Zealand. It creates space for people drawn to a generous, thoughtful Christian faith - one that makes room for diversity, honest questions, and compassion.

  • First National Gathering held in Auckland (June 2026)
  • Fosters inclusive dialogues, reflection & shared meals

In 2025, we launched SIDN to connect New Zealand donors committed to making high-impact contributions to international causes. The network provides opportunities for collaboration, shared learning, and strategic giving.

In 2025, we also launched the Ethical Transparency Alliance. The project advocates for ethical transparency in retail products and supply chains, working with partners and standards bodies to support systems that enable responsible purchasing.

Since 2017, Better World has hosted this annual event in Devonport, bringing together vendors committed to ethically sourced, fairtrade, and sustainable products.

Social Housing Auckland Property

Social Housing

Ongoing Project

In 2019, Better World purchased an Auckland property specifically for social housing. It continues to be leased to the Bays Community Housing Trust to provide stable, affordable homes for those in need.

International Grants & Community Projects

Effective Altruism NZ

$23,000 NZD Donation — October 2025

In partnership with International Barcodes Ltd, we supported Effective Altruism NZ through a donation-matching campaign designed to inspire both new and returning donors. Effective Altruism NZ supports rigorously evaluated, top-tier charities - funding cost-effective global health interventions and direct cash grants to families living in extreme poverty. Malaria Consortium Initiative Malaria Prevention Against Malaria Foundation Partnership

Water Filters (Egypt)

In partnership with the Community Transformation Trust, we are committed to funding 300 household water filters for families in need in Ezbet El Haggana, near Cairo. We have already funded 200 filters ($120 NZD each), which are currently being installed with help from our local partner, GHNI.

Micro-Loans (Egypt)

Through our partnership with the Community Transformation Trust, we have funded 20 micro-enterprise loans ($4,400 USD donated in August 2025) to empower struggling families in Egypt to build sustainable livelihoods.

Community Development Project Updates

Comprehensive updates on our long-term holistic development partnerships globally.

Indonesia – Polewali Village (Project Complete)

In partnership with the Community Transformation Trust (CTT) and GHNI, we are thrilled to share that Polewali Village officially graduated from its 5-year Transformational Community Development (TCD) project in November 2025 and is now fully self-sufficient!

Key Achievements:
  • Household electricity access reached 91%
  • Sanitation coverage nearly tripled with strong clean water access
  • Clean cooking adoption nearly doubled
  • Diverse income streams established (new crop farming, clay pots, coconut soap, and coconut oil)

Polewali Village Graduation Community
Ezbet El Haggana Community Project

Egypt – Ezbet El Haggana

In partnership with the Community Transformation Trust (CTT), we are supporting GHNI’s Transformational Community Development (TCD) project in this refugee community, with a particular focus right now on funding microloans and household water filters.

Project Highlights:
  • 96% Safe Sanitation Access: Many water filters installed.
  • Health Education: Community health education classes.

Togo – Birini Village & Kassena Point

Through our partnership with the International Barcodes Network, we have provided ongoing annual support for transformational community development projects across Togo since 2023.

Recent Updates:
  • Malnutrition Drop: Malnutrition reduced from 90% to 10% in the Birini Village Loop (bags of rice were donated).
  • Education Infrastructure: Construction has officially begun on Kassena Point's very first primary school.

Togo Food Relief Distribution
Dadpur Village Community Bangladesh

Bangladesh – Dadpur Village

In partnership with the International Barcodes Network and GHNI, we've supported Dadpur village since 2019 by funding food parcels for 35 widows, along with food and clothing for a local school and children's home.

Recent Milestone:
  • 100% Clean Water Access: Thanks to newly installed community water wells, every villager in Dadpur now has reliable access to clean water.
