Transformation in Nepal
Since 2019, Better World has partnered with International Barcodes Ltd to support GHNI’s ongoing TCD work in Luina and Chainpur Villages, Makawanpur.
*Note: While known as Luina Village on our site, our partner GHNI often refers to the project as Chainpur Village.
Background & Challenges
Before TCD intervention, these mountain villages in Makawanpur faced severe isolation. High rates of child malnutrition, lack of sustainable income, and unreliable access to clean water were daily realities.
The geography makes traditional farming difficult, requiring innovative "Low Tech" solutions like apiculture and resilient livestock management to break the cycle of poverty.
2024 Update
Major milestones achieved through community empowerment and seed funding.
Universal Income
Every family now has at least one source of income (goats, poultry, bees). Many are now fully self-sustaining.
Safe Drinking Water
The community maintains safe water standards and conducts weekly cleanings of the storage tank.
Zero Malnutrition
Nutrition lessons for women have successfully eliminated child malnutrition in the village.
Free Tuition
Community volunteer Lalita serves as the village teacher, ensuring access to education for all children.
Agricultural Excellence
Regular training continues in organic vegetable production, paddy farming, and specialized goat care during the rainy season.
Success Stories
Prakash Praja
Prakash introduced Dragon Fruit to the village, growing his orchard from 20 to over 50 plants. This new crop is more valuable than any local fruit, proving to neighbors that innovation pays off.
Maila Praja
Maila expanded from poultry into a herd of five goats. His diversified farm has made him fully self-sufficient, providing a stable future and resilient income for his family.
