Since 2019, Better World has partnered with International Barcodes Ltd to support GHNI’s ongoing Transformational Community Development (TCD) work in mountain communities.
Focus Area: Luina and Chainpur Villages, Makawanpur

Background & Challenges
Before TCD intervention, these remote mountain villages in Makawanpur faced severe isolation. High rates of child malnutrition, lack of sustainable family income, and unreliable access to clean water were daily struggles.
Due to rugged mountain terrain making traditional crops difficult, the community implemented innovative "Low Tech" sustainable solutions—including apiculture (beekeeping), organic farming, and resilient livestock management—to break the cycle of poverty.

2024 Community Milestones
Livelihood & Water Security
Seed funding and community training have enabled self-directed agricultural micro-enterprises and sustainable infrastructure care.
Universal Income Opportunities
Every village family now owns at least one income-generating enterprise (goats, poultry, or beehives), rendering many families fully self-sustaining.
Safe Drinking Water Standards
The community maintains strict water cleanliness standards through weekly scheduled sanitization and cleaning of the main water storage tank.
Zero Malnutrition Achieved
Mother-to-mother health and nutrition workshops have successfully eliminated child malnutrition across Luina and Chainpur.
Free Village Tuition
Community volunteer Lalita serves as the village educator, guaranteeing free, daily foundational schooling for all local children.
Agricultural Training & Innovation
Regular community workshops continue in organic vegetable production, high-yield paddy farming, and specialized livestock care during the heavy monsoon season.
Success Stories
Prakash Praja — Agricultural Pioneer
Prakash introduced high-value Dragon Fruit cultivation to the village, expanding his orchard from 20 to over 50 thriving plants. Generating higher returns than traditional crops, his success has inspired neighboring farmers to adopt innovative agricultural techniques.
Maila Praja — Micro-Enterprise Growth
Starting with small-scale poultry, Maila diversified his farm into a herd of five healthy goats. His expanded livestock business has made his family fully self-sufficient, ensuring a reliable, long-term source of household security and income.
